Advanced bacterial culture testing for precise antibiotic treatment.
Urine C/S (Culture & Sensitivity) test identifies bacteria causing urinary tract infections and determines which antibiotics will effectively treat the infection. At Hans Hospital Agra, we provide comprehensive urine culture testing to ensure appropriate antibiotic treatment. Urine culture is the gold standard for diagnosing bacterial urinary tract infections.
Proper antibiotic selection based on culture results prevents treatment failure and antibiotic resistance.
Understanding your urine culture results
Sensitive (S): Antibiotic effective against the bacteria.
Resistant (R): Bacteria not affected by the antibiotic.
Intermediate (I): May be effective at higher doses.
MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration): Lowest antibiotic concentration that prevents bacterial growth.
MBC (Minimum Bactericidal Concentration): Concentration that kills 99.9% of bacteria.
Urine sample inoculated on culture media. Bacteria identified by colony morphology, Gram stain, and biochemical tests. Takes 48-72 hours for complete results.
Clean catch midstream urine sample essential. No antibiotics for 48 hours before test. First morning urine preferred. Transport to lab within 2 hours.
Minimum 5-10 mL urine in sterile container. Clean catch technique mandatory. Refrigerated transport if delay expected. No preservatives.
Preliminary results in 24 hours. Final culture and sensitivity results in 48-72 hours. Critical results reported immediately.
